This Tapestry is inspired by the ice-clad Lanin Volcano on the border of Argentina and Chile. It also features an Araucaria Tree (the national tree of Chile). This tree is curiously known as the Monkey Puzzle Tree in English. In the mid 1800s an Englishman planted an Araucaria seed he found on his travels in Chile in his garden in the U.K. One night, a dinner guest remarked that the branches were so strange they could confuse a monkey, and the name has stuck ever since.
This tapestry was woven in Jujuy, Argentina, on a traditional loom using lambswool that is spun and dyed by hand. The asymmetries and beauty marks are part of what make this artisanal piece so unique, and in our eyes, so perfect.

Cornelio Barconti along with the help of his family weaves incredible wool tapestries and area rugs. Cornelio lives in rural Jujuy, Argentina.
Hand made from start to finish.
Cornelio and co spin the wool into yarn using home-made wheels, dye the yarn using primarily natural pigments, and then weave intricate patterns on artisanal looms. The result is outstanding.
